About this water

The flat, waterlogged island of Benbecula sits between the Uists and holds dozens of small lochs — some peaty, some machair-influenced, some brackish. The fishing is intimate and exploratory: many lochs are never fished from one season to the next, and discovering an unfished water holding rising trout is one of the great pleasures of Hebridean fishing. The trout are wild and free-rising, typically half a pound to a pound. Access is easy across the open moorland. What Benbecula lacks in trophy fish it compensates with quantity, variety, and the simple joy of exploring water that feels like yours alone.
