A compact Sutherland salmon system structured around Loch Brora rather than a single continuous river. Mandatory catch-and-release applies. Declining Atlantic salmon populations are Category 3 under Scottish Government classification; every fish returned matters. Above the loch lie the Upper Brora and the important Blackwater tributary; below it, the Lower Brora runs about three miles to the estuary. Access is mainly estate-controlled and less transparent than the Alness or Lossie — present it as limited unless current lets are confirmed. Sandstone freestone bedrock underlies this river.
