Reasonable summer fishing likely at Eyebrook Reservoir
Water temperature is the limiting factor today, not the wave. Fish dawn or dusk if you go at all, and handle everything with extra care.

How to fish it · for Trout
When
Buzzer hatches April through June at first light; sedges in summer; small black flies into October. Eyebrook fishes more wild than its size suggests.
Where
Quiet bays and the deeper edges away from the boat traffic. Weed margins hold browns reliably.
Method
Drifted team of three on a floating line. Slow the retrieve and read each lane — Eyebrook rewards water-craft.
Kit
10 ft #7 boat rod, floating and slow-intermediate lines, 6 to 7 lb fluoro. Drogue and a long-handled net.
The plan
Plan A

Start with Marabou Damsel (8-12) — on the point. As evening approaches, switch to dries or emergers if you see surface activity.

Plan B

Fish early and late, try deeper during the heat of the day with a fast-sinking line.

Watch for

Evening tends to be the best period in summer — stay late if you can for a sedge or spinner fall.

Either bank or boat

Good ripple suits both bank and boat. Bank: work inflows, dam walls, and points. Boat: broadside drift covering wind lanes.

About this water

Eyebrook Reservoir near Uppingham — a 160-hectare reservoir that closed as a stocked trout fishery in April 2025, when Tata Steel ownership ended and Anglian Water took over. The reservoir has re-opened for coarse and predator angling; wild brown trout may still be present but are no longer stocked. The classic trout-fishing character that gave Eyebrook its loyal following has not survived the transition. Worth confirming current access and species before visiting.
