About this water

Denmark's longest river at 160 kilometres, winding from the lake district near Tørring through Silkeborg to Randers Fjord. Riverfisher recorded 333 salmon in 2025 and is built around salmon in the Gudenå system, but the story is spatially specific: salmon and sea-trout fishing takes place in the lower river below Tangeværket, and sea trout are currently protected in part of the system upstream of Lilleåen. Riverfisher points anglers toward the Lilleåen tributary for really big sea trout. The upper reaches and tributaries hold wild brown trout, and coarse fish are present throughout. Day tickets from local associations. Atlantic salmon are managed under strict national quotas (DTU Aqua) — each river runs a limited annual kill quota and switches to catch-and-release once it is filled; check the quota before fishing.
