How to fish it · for Trout
When
The damsel nymph is on. Buzzers may also come into play as the day warms. The ripple is helpful — fish should move onto the feed and a slow-drifted team or single wet will cover water well. The breeze will be blowing terrestrial insects onto the water — check the wind lanes and downwind margins for rising fish.
Where
Set up a broadside drift and cover the water systematically. Work a bushy searching pattern on the bob and drop a contrasting nymph on the point.
The plan
Plan A

Set up a broadside drift and cover the water systematically. Work a bushy searching pattern on the bob and drop a contrasting nymph on the point.

Plan B

If the main plan is not working, switch to a smaller, more imitative pattern fished slower and deeper. A change of drift angle can also make a difference.

About this water

Tecwyn Uchaf is the flagship of the Artro & Talsarnau waters — the biggest lake in the association's book, and it fishes like it, with room enough for stocked rainbows to grow on and a background population of wild browns that turn up when you're not expecting them. It sits above the Dwyryd estuary in classic Ardudwy country, hills on three sides and Harlech's castle visible on a clear day if you know where to look. The stocking gives it more reliable sport than its smaller neighbours, and it's the water most newcomers to the club start on. Straightforward bank fishing, a decent head of fish, and views worth the walk regardless of how the day goes.
