The Renous flows south through the New Brunswick interior to join the Southwest Miramichi near Blackville — a town with more salmon-fishing history per capita than almost anywhere in North America. The river is smaller and more confined than the main Southwest Miramichi, with deeper pools and tighter runs that hold fish particularly well when the main river is running high and off-colour. Grilse from late June through August; multi-sea-winter fish appear later. The Renous rewards the angler who knows the pools, and the pools reward patience applied over several consecutive days. Atlantic salmon are managed under DFO conservation rules — mandatory catch-and-release of large (multi-sea-winter) salmon applies in most areas, with any grilse retention strictly limited by zone; check current regulations before fishing.
