Slovenia's biggest glacial lake, sitting at the head of the Bohinjka valley inside Triglav National Park, and about as good-looking a piece of water as this pack contains — crystal clear, ringed by peaks, the kind of setting that makes the fishing feel almost secondary. It isn't, though: Arctic char, brown trout and lake-run trout are all present, fished from the south shore or by boat with a park licence. The char rules are strict and mean it — barbless hooks, catch-and-release, no exceptions — and given how precarious an alpine char population is, that's exactly how it should be.
