How to fish it · for Rainbow
When
Conditions are not ideal but fishable at Orlík Reservoir. The ripple should help fish move and feed more confidently. Evening can bring a surface rise — have a dry fly or emerger ready.
Where
Start with Pheasant tail nymph (12-14) on a slow, natural presentation — check locally for the preferred method. Early in the day, try buzzers on a slow figure-of-eight or a booby on a fast-sink line near the bottom. Rainbows respond to more active retrieves — try short strips between pauses.
The plan
Plan A

Start with Pheasant tail nymph (12-14) on a slow, natural presentation — check locally for the preferred method. Early in the day, try buzzers on a slow figure-of-eight or a booby on a fast-sink line near the bottom. Rainbows respond to more active retrieves — try short strips between pauses.

Plan B

Fish early and late, try deeper during the heat of the day with a fast-sinking line.

Watch for

Evening tends to be the best period in summer — stay late if you can for a sedge or spinner fall.

Boat — drift

A gentle ripple is ideal for drifting — broadside drift covering the wind lanes should be productive.

About this water

Large Vltava reservoir whose public identity is overwhelmingly non-salmonid: carp, pike, zander, catfish and other stillwater species dominate how Orlík is described and fished. Fly fishing is allowed and the official fishery card allows retention of rainbow trout and brook char, but this is not well supported as a core Czech trout destination.
