About this beat

The longest and most popular beat on the fishery — deeper and tree-shaded, holding fish well through summer, with strong blue-winged olive evenings late in the beat near the weed rack. The Jubilee Hut sits at the top end.

Rules

Commoner-rights and paying-rod syndicate water, not a day ticket. Trout season from 1 May; grayling to end of December for members. No right of access during the close season. No wading, except on Freeman's Marsh (Beat 12). Daily limit 4 trout (13"/33cm, 1½oz/400g+), max 2 from any one beat except Lower Meadow; return undersized fish quickly if undamaged.

Methods

Fishing is upstream only with a dry-fly. Nymph fishing is only permitted from 1st July. Wet flies, lures or goldheads may not be used, and no hook larger than size 12.
